SPRING VALLEY – Steele Canyon strolled into Friday night’s matchup with a perfect 5-0 record and left with the same, claiming a resounding 28-0 victory over Los Angeles Dorsey.
The Cougars’ defense was stingy, their offense efficient, and their special teams opportunistic, giving them the county’s best start since a 9-0 campaign in 2019.
Quarterback Gavin Caha was the offensive standout, completing 8-of-14 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior Nico Jara led all scorers with three touchdowns, two on receptions and one on a rushing play, while Donte Brown added a fourth score with a punt return touchdown.
The Cougars opened the scoring on a 45-yard pass from Caha to Jara late in the first quarter.
Steele Canyon then capitalized on a Dorsey miscue just before halftime, when a shanked punt was scooped up by Brown and raced 12 yards into the end zone, giving the Cougars a 14-0 lead at the break.
Vincent Pryor ended the first half with a sack, keeping the Dons off the scoreboard.
Early in the second half, Vincent Carter recovered a fumble at Dorsey’s 18-yard line.
Marcus Hunt’s hard run moved the ball to the 2-yard line, and Jara converted on a creative swinging-gate direct snap for a touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0 with 5:35 left in the third quarter.
Steele Canyon’s final score came after another Dorsey special-teams miscue, with Jara catching a pass around the 10, absorbing a hit, and diving across the goal line for an 18-yard touchdown with 8:25 remaining.
Defensively, Steele Canyon limited Dorsey’s offense throughout, combining for two sacks (Tyree Zarkaryan and Jara) and forcing turnovers that set up points.
The Cougars outgained the Dons 179 total yards passing and 71 on the ground, controlling the game from start to finish.
With the win, Steele Canyon improves to 6-0, maintaining its position among East County’s top programs.
Dorsey falls to 2-3 and will look to rebound against Crenshaw next week.
The Cougars will continue their dominant stretch at home next Friday when they face El Capitan in a clash of two defenses that have allowed just 8.2 points per game.
Steele Canyon’s balanced attack, opportunistic defense, and special-teams excellence ensured Friday night was another statement win on their march toward a potential championship run.
