The Santee City Cup will stay on the west side of town after Christian Slojkowski’s 25-yard field goal in overtime lifted the West Hills Wolf Pack to a 10-7 victory over the Santana Sultans on Friday night.
It marked West Hills’ third straight win in the rivalry and their ninth in the last 11 meetings, continuing their edge in what has become the East County’s most preeminent annual trophy matchup with the Grossmont–Helix Musket rivalry currently on pause.
With the win, West Hills (5-4 overall, 2-2 Grossmont Valley League) remains alive for a share of the league championship.
The Wolf Pack would need to defeat El Cajon Valley next week and have Monte Vista upset Grossmont in La Mesa next Friday for a two-way tie atop the league standings.
Slojkowski, a senior, has been one of East County’s top specialists this season and throughout his three-year varsity career. He heads into next Friday’s season finale averaging 37.8 yards per punt with four field goals made this season, including the biggest boot of his prep career on Friday night.
In Friday’s win, he averaged 50.7 yards on four punts (203 total yards) and connected on the game-winning field goal in overtime after earlier missing from 47 and 55 yards, both of which would’ve been career long kicks. He was also 1-for-1 on extra points, improving his career totals to 52-for-61 on PATs and nine field goals, including a long of 42 yards (twice).

West Hills took the early lead midway through the first quarter on a steady drive led by Aidan Kidwell’s 20-yard run and a key third-down conversion from Anthony Rosolino to the Santana 22-yard line.
Jacob Romeo then carried for 12 yards down to the 1 before finishing the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run to the left side with 5:09 remaining in the opening quarter.
Slojkowski’s PAT made it 7-0 Wolf Pack.
The defenses controlled much of the night.
West Hills’ Cameron Kirkpatrick recorded a sack in the second quarter to stop a Santana advance after Koko Thornton’s runs pushed the Sultans near midfield.
Santana’s defense sparked the equalizer in the third quarter.
On a fumble forced by the Sultans’ Ryder Davey with a jarring hit on a sack of West Hills quarterback Evin Dill, Tatum Morehouse scooped up the ball and returned it 14 yards for a touchdown, tying the game at 7-7 following the extra point.
Later in the third, Thornton stripped the ball from a West Hills runner, and Sean Gardinera recovered at the Santana 40-yard line. After a penalty on West Hills moved the ball to the Wolf Pack 39, Santana lined up for a 33-yard field goal, but the kick was no good.
Late in regulation, Rey Garcia intercepted a tipped Santana pass and returned it 19 yards to the Sultan 45-yard line, eventually setting up a long 55-yard field goal attempt by Slojkowski that missed, sending the game to overtime tied at 7-all.
Santana failed to score on its first overtime possession.
On West Hills’ turn, short runs by Anthony Rosolino and Romeo set up Slojkowski’s final attempt — a 25-yard field goal from the left hash — that went through for the 10-7 victory and another year with the City Cup.
“Once we were in the second half, a couple of coaches came up to me and said it was likely to come down to me and it did,” Slojkowski told the East County Prep Football Post-Game Show. “Usually, I don’t prefer the left hash but I’ll take whatever they’ll give me.”
West Hills totaled 165 yards rushing on the night, led by Romeo (10 carries for 46 yards) and Dill (12 for 42 yards). Rosolino added 25 yards on three carries, Andrew Serrato had 17 yards on four carries, Kidwell gained 20 yards on three carries, Julian DeBeneditto added 11 yards on three carries.

Dill completed 2-of-4 passes on the night, with receptions by Romeo (3 yards) and Rosolino (1 yard) as the focus was on ball control.
On special teams, Dill also punted once for 40 yards, while Slojkowski averaged 50.7 yards on four punts.
Caleb Carnes, a senior, had eight tackles, including four solo and two for loss (one sack), for the Sultans. He also led all receivers with three receptions for 37 yards.
Sophomore Cameron Cipro led Santana with 12 total tackles, including one for loss. Thornton also forced a fumble.
The win sets up West Hills’ regular-season finale next Friday at El Cajon Valley, with CIF Division IV or Division V playoff positioning and a possible league title share still in play.
Santana (3-6, 1-3 GVL) will close its season Thursday night at home against Valhalla. The Sultans are also teetering between the Division 4 and Division 5 playoff pools, which gives an outside chance of reuniting the teams in the postseason.
