SPRING VALLEY – In a high-energy, cross-league showdown, Steele Canyon delivered a statement victory — and got an historic individual performance — edging West Hills 70-68 for its first win of the season.

The night belonged to 6-foot-7 sophomore Chayse Miles, who erupted for 40 points on 16-of-29 shooting, securing the second-highest single-game scoring mark in Steele Canyon history.

Only Richie Williams’ 42-point outburst in the 2004 Holiday Classic now sits above him in the Cougars’ record book. Miles added 7 rebounds and 2 assists as he powered SC to a 1-1 start after a narrow opening loss to Rancho Christian.

Steele Canyon needed every bit of his production after trailing 35–26 at halftime. The Cougars surged late with a 25-point fourth quarter to complete the comeback.

Alex Andrews added 18 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds, while Chris Alexander finished with 7 points and 4 boards.

West Hills (1-1) countered with balanced scoring: with Dalex Morris – 18 points (4 threes), Malekai Dillon – 17 points, 8 rebounds, Ethen Shaw – 15 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, and Dru Bullard – 11 points.

The Wolf Pack knocked down 13 threes overall but were outpaced in the final minutes.

El Capitan 58, Valley Center 40
In their season opener, El Capitan locked down defensively and pulled away from Valley Center for a 58-40 home win. After a tight first quarter, the Vaqueros controlled the middle periods and closed strong behind a 21-point fourth quarter.

Kale Curo scored 11 points, T. Billinger added 11, and Ethan Adams chipped in 7 points and 11 rebounds to pace El Capitan (1-0).

Santana 94, Health Sciences 20
Santana moved to 2-0 in emphatic fashion, rolling to a 94-20 win at home over Health Sciences. The Sultans controlled from the tip, piling up their second straight dominant non-league victory to open the season.
