Norsemen, Davis come up clutch for win

VALHALLA 56, KEARNY 55

SAN DIEGO – Valhalla’s Cole “The Closer” Davis delivered exactly as his nickname suggests.

Valhalla escaped Kearny with a dramatic 56-55 road victory on Friday, winning on a last-second layup by Davis, who took the inbounds pass, split two defenders, and powered to the rim for the game-winner.

Kearny’s last-ditch heave at the horn wasn’t close, sealing the Norsemen’s clutch tournament win.

Valhalla outscored the Komets 14-13 in the fourth to complete the comeback after trailing 18-15 after one.

Andrew Mikhail turned in an ultra-efficient performance with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Davis contributed 23 minutes of high-impact play, including nine points and seven boards.

George Hinnawi added nine points and seven rebounds, and Jawad Monqad chipped in five rebounds and three assists.


SOUTHWEST 62, MOUNT MIGUEL 48 – In the Matadors’ season opener, visiting Southwest SD used a big third quarter to pull away for a 62-48 win in Spring Valley.

Mount Miguel’s Brooklyn James (13 points) and Jerome Radcliff (11) led the scoring, while junior Jayden Crayton-Sherman had an efficient 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including five made threes.

Southwest was paced by Noah Soltero’s 28 points.


FRANCIS PARKER 80, CHRISTIAN 65 – Christian opened its season against a tough Francis Parker squad, falling 80-65 in a tournament matchup.

The Patriots started strong with 21 first-quarter points but were outscored 50-24 in the middle quarters as Parker surged ahead.


COASTAL ACADEMY 60, MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 27 – Coastal Academy protected its home floor, rolling to a 60-27 win over visiting Mountain Empire in non-league action.
