CULVER CITY – Nov. 22, 2025 – Grossmont College capped a remarkable turnaround season with a 21-20 victory over West Los Angeles College in the 2025 Beach Bowl on Saturday afternoon at Culver City. The Wildcats held off a late rally by the host team to claim the trophy and finish 7-4 overall.

Under second-year head coach Mason Mitchell, Grossmont has gone from a one-win season in 2024 to bowl champions in 2025.

Grossmont jumped to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter and maintained control through the first half.

Quarterback Melvin Spicer IV connected with Ayden Billups on a 23-yard touchdown pass just 11 seconds into the game, setting the tone.

Spicer later added a 5-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats a commanding 14-0 advantage at halftime.

West L.A., making its first postseason appearance since 2004, rallied in the second half behind quarterback Jackson Dadich.

Dadich hit Raiya Thomas on a 77-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 14-7. Grossmont answered with a 1-yard plunge by Darick Dubose Jr., restoring a two-score lead at 21-7.

West L.A. surged again in the fourth quarter, with Zion Bennett catching a 9-yard touchdown pass and Bryant Collins scoring on a 9-yard run to bring the score to 21-20 with just over a minute remaining.

The host team’s two-point conversion attempt failed, sealing the win for Grossmont.

Darick Dubose Jr., out of El Cajon Valley High, led Grossmont on the ground with 106 yards and a touchdown, while Spicer threw for 122 yards and a score.

Defensive standouts Adrien Chargualaf and Lincoln Chukwuemeka helped the Wildcats withstand West L.A.’s late offensive push.

With the victory, Grossmont wins the Beach Bowl and finishes the season 7-4, a dramatic improvement from last year’s rebuilding campaign.

West LA and Grossmont were meeting for the second time this season. In Week 6, the squads opened Pacific League play in El Cajon with the Wildcats edging the Griffins by a final score of 14-13.

West L.A. concludes its season at 7-4 as well, coming just short in its first bowl appearance in over two decades.
