ARLINGTON, Texas – Keionte Scott, one of a long list of former Helix Highlanders to make a mark in major-college football, repeated the feat in Wednesday’s (Dec. 31) Cotton Bowl.
Scott, making a key read on the offense by defending national champion Ohio State, jumped the pass route on a player he easn;t supposed to defending, Instead, the short [ass result ed into a dramatic pick-6 interception of 72 yards to give his 10th-ranked Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes a 14-0 halftime advantage, en route to a 24-14 upset victory to gain a berth in the national semifinals.
For his efforts, which included a pair of third-down stops, Scott was tabbed the game’s Outstanding Defensive Player.
The Canes (12-2) wait to learn their opponent out of the three New Year’s Day ballgames. The No. 2 Buckeyes end their season with an identical 12-2 mark.
