RANCHO SAN DIEGO — Grossmont College guard Gavin Berg poured in a career-high 21 points, lwading the Griffins to a 65-61 decision over district rival Cuyamaca College in Wednesday’s (Jan. 21) Pacific Coast Athletic Conference basketball game held at Coyotes Den gymnasium.
Berge, a sophomore out of Patrick Henry High, hit five triples in the contest, easily topping his previous best of 124, set last week against Palomar.
The Battle for East County also ended Cuayamaca’s three-game win streak in the series, which is the best by the Coyotes since 2009-10 — the last tiw the school posted a winning season.
Grossmont, winners of 16-out-of-the-last 27 in the series, hold the all-time series edge, 29-20.
Along with Berg’s scoring efforts, Grossmont received 14 points from Lamont Wilkerson (Scripps Ranch), and 13 more from guard Micah Whitley (The Rock).
For Cuyamaca, Jamier Sykes led allscorerswith 26 points.
