RANCHO PENASQUITOS — Just call it the “Bobo No-No.”
The statement may sound silly, but the pitching effort was anything but.
Patriots senior Tyson Bobo fired a dominating, complete-game ni0hitter., stopping host Mt. Carmel, 4-0, in Wednesday’s (Mar. 11) tournament axction.
Bobo, a 6-foot-2 right-hander approaching 200 pounds, struck out seven Sundevils batters, facing just four batters above the minimum. Heneeded just 82 pitches to complete his gem.
The effort was needed as Mt. Carmel starter Jack Grassa was also on-spot. The senior allowed just one run through six innings. However, the bullpen was let down in the seventh when the only error in the contest allowded the Patriots to score twice to allow Bobo to relax in order to record the final three outs,
Fr Patrick Henry, Alex Mestman was the focal point in both rallies, batting 3-for-3 on the afternoon.
The early run saw Westman single, steal second base, then came home on a line single to right field by Ian Brooke — which provedf to be the game-winning RBI.
In the seventh and a runner on third base, Lukas Qaite cored on a dropped third strike. On the play to the plate, batter Oliver Allen was hustling — a rare kudos to the first=base coach –and reached second base.
The bag proved important when Westman collected his third hit with an RBI ingle to left field.
Patrick Henry moves to 3-1 both overall and in the tournamement. But with Torrey Pines falling to Westview (also 4-10 today, 8-1, tiebreakers will be needed to decide the WINNER of the event.
Mt. Carmel (0-3-1) is winless in four.
