At La Mesa: Kudos to Cathedral Catholic for going 5-0 to capture the openoing tournament of the yhear, capping the event by handing Granote Hills its first regular-eason setback since 2024.

However, the Dons were handed notice that the start of this week’s new tournament will not be as easy, coitesy of the Helix Highlanders.

of a 2-run double by sophomore Romeo Briones, the Scotties shocked the visitors from Carmel Highlanders after socring three times in the seventh inning, as the true Highlanders walked-off with a 3-2 triumph.

Dons startibg pitcher Shoei Darvish tossed five frames of 1-hit ballo, but the bullpen, hindered by an error, came within two strikes of the victory but fell short.

The late-inning rally started on a leas walk to Jaxon Gottlieb, followed by a ground ball which was booted instead of Cthedral Catholic tunring a double play.

Gptt;orb scored to end the shutout bid on a ground single up the middle by Angel Watkins.

The Dons retired the next two batters, but on a 1-1 pitc, Briones sent a shot ro lwdt field. Watkibs easily came home to tie the contest, so Richardson was sent home — the worst case scenario was extra innings.

However, Richardson beat the relay;

The Scotties will carry a 4-game winstreak into Wednesday’s contest at Point Loma.

Granite Hills 3, St. Augustine 1
At Granite Hills:Eagles starting pitcher Hoss Harper carried a shutout into the seventh inniong, but when the Saints scored, Brodey Vicars emerged from the bullpen to record the final out to allow the hosts to start a new winning streak.

Harper tossed 6.3 innings, striking out eught Saints batters. Vicars gained the dave by coaxing a soft line to center fielder Preston Hendry for the final out.

A pair of second-inning runs would be enough for Granite Hills.

Weston Pace douvled to right filed tgo plate Jesse Maddox. Two batters late, Pace scoredfrom third on a ground out to shortstop, but the play had to got first base, so Anthony Miotti picked up an RBI by keeping the ball away from the left side of the diamond.

In the fifth, Eurijah Schutza added an insureance run with a run-scoring double.

Grossmont 3, University CIty 0
At University City: Foothillers senior Jesse McCormick captured a pitchers’ duel by firing a 4-hit shutout to cash out the Cents.

McCormick struck out eight University City batters as oppose to just one walk, leading tgheHillers (3-3) bsck to the .500 plateau with their second straight triumph.

After watching Centurions pitching in the first inning, the top of theGrossmont batting order figures things out, scoring single runs in the third, fifth and sevemth innings to slowly pull away.

The game-winning RBI went to Logan Struck,who doubled to right field to bring home Dominic Guerra.

Two frames later, pinch hitter Reid Barnett lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Myles Cata from third base.

In the seventh, Cata balooned his own sacrifice fly, this time in center, allowing Jonah Martinez to scoot home.

The Cents slipped to 2-5 (0-3 vs. East County programs).

At San Carlos: Sporting one of the best 1-2 pitching arms in the COF-San Diego Section, Patrick Henrey may well beon the way to another berth in the open dIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

following the no-hitter by Tyson Bob last week, Monday’s (Mar. 16) standout on the mound was Brady Gunn, who fired a 3-hit shutout at the visiting Cougars (2-6).

On is six innings, Gynn struck out nine San Ysidro batters without issuing a walk.

The offense of Patrick Henry (4-1) was led by Jayden Goldman and Bobo, who each slammed a double and drove in threeruns. Both hits came in the fifth when the Pats scored nine times to expand a 2-0 cushion.

Lukas Oquendo added a 2-run double. Ian Brooke and Bobo scored twice.

Liberty Charter 14, Bonsall 3 (6 inn.)
At Alpine: The Bonsall Legionnaires made their third trip to East County already this season, but came away with their first loss. The ballgame was called in the sixth after the Lions mounted a 10-run lead.

Liberty Charter , which moved to 3-4 following an 0-3 start, posted seven runs on the club’s first trip to the plate to breeze to the finish line.

Logan Hays paced the offense with three RBI on 2-for-4 hitting, scoring twice.

Freshman Fredricks slugged a 2-run double, while Isaac Anderson also knocked in a pair of runs.

Jace Ballard and frosh John Gray both stole two bases.

Bonsall fell to 2-7 overall.

Lincoln 13, Santana 11
At Lincoln: Will the real Santana Sultans please stand up?

After fighting — according to the idiom — “tooth and nail” in an extra-inning setback to Granite Hills in their previous outing, the Sultans came out sluggish in a disappointing loss to Lincoln. to fall to 2-4 on the season.

The Hornets, which trailed early 7-1, scored all of their runs over the first three innings, including 11 markers in the second to grab the lead for keeps.

For the Sultans, designated hitter Ryder Davey belted a 2-run homer to help start the late comeback on a liner to center. He was the lone Sultans batter with multiple hits.

The RBI leader was center fielder Tatum Morehouse, a sophomore,with three. Matching Davey with two RBI were left fielder Max Abbott and right fielder Brennen Weed,

This was Santana’s highest scoring contest since downing King-Chavez Community school, 29-0, in 2014.

Mira Nesa 3, El Capitan 1
At Mira Mesa: The offense of the Vaqueros (3-4) cpmyinues to sturrlg, now limited to just six runs in their four losses this season.

This time, it was Marauders pitcher Dylan Pham who turned the trick on a complete-game, 6-hitter to collect the victory. The junior was backed by three Mira Mesa runs in the second inning, inckuding a 2-run doulw from Tristan Aguon.

El Cap answered in the fifth, when Caleb Stearns scored on a Mira Mesa error to avoid the shutout.

Montgoery 3, Christian 0
At the green field off Greenfield: The Christian Patriots, which held the longest win streak in the East County after the 30-game, regular-season win streak by Granite Hills was snapped on Friday, saw their hot trend get sidelined.

Montgomery (2-4), known to field just a single quality pitcher, had right-hander Ricardo Aguilar fire a 2-hit shutout. Aguilar SRUCK OUT nine Christian batters.

Aguilar (-0) both both victories for the Aztecs (2-4); the Pats fell to 4-3 overall.

San Diego HS 11,Steele Canyon 5
Downtown San Diego, under the landing pattern to A. Lindbergh Field: Cavers pitching carried a shutout into the sixth inning, coasting along after the host scored seven times in the second to derail the Cougars. SDHS (formerly Russ HS in thr 19th Century) move to 4-2 overall.

Preventing the :cleansheet” for Steele Canyon (2-4) was Caha Gavin with a solo home run.

Scripps Ranch 2, West Hills 1
At Scripps Ranch: Andy Mildenstein singled home
Roy Ruiz to open the ballgame, but Falcons pitcher Tyler Gloff capped the contest with 6.2 innings of no-hit ball to subdue the visiting Wolf Pack. Gloff, a sophomore,struck out seven batters from West Hills (0-2) and walked just one, facing just three batters above the minimum, The Falcons move to 3-3 overall.

West Hills will finally, in Week 4, hold its Mar. 18), hosting La Jolla *1-4).

Madison 16, Valhalla 2
At Clairemont Mesa: According to social media, Valhalla gas dropped softball for thebalance of the season. Could the baseball teambe far behind.

In another Norsemen setback, Madison limitefdthe Orange tojust two hits inMonday’s (Mar. 16) tournament decision.

Trailing 7-0, the Orange collected their lone run when center fielder Camryn Conley scored on an error.
