Patrick Henry 3, Newport Harbor 1
AT Boras C.asskc in Orange County: The Patriots (10-6 overall) will play for the consolation championship on Friday after stopping the Newport Harbor Sailos, 3-1.
Patriots pitcher Brady Gunn overcame a first-inning run to fire 6.2 innings before the pitch count left home one batter shy of a complete game. However, Sal Gagliano entered to register Out No. 21 on a shallow fly ball to right fielder Tyson Bobo to collect the save.
Down 1-0, Patrick Henry immediately claimed the lead in the second/ Jayden Goldman singled home Gagliano to pull even, then a ground ball to the right-side of the infield by Bobo brought home Ian Brooke.
Little did anyone know, the simple ground ball would produce the game-winning run.
In the sixth, an insurance run saw Parks Kronk-Hawley ground a ball just beyond the reach of the Sailors shortstop/ The throw from left field went to the shortstop, who made an error, so Jimmy Gunn kept running from second base to score.
SD-Southwest 19, El Cajon Valley 5
At ECVHS: In a battle of left-handers, the hoist Braves stayed close with the Southwest Raiders for five of contest’s seven innings. However, in the other two frames…
The Raiders scored five runs in the second inning, then six more in the sixth — all unearned on (way too many) Braves errors to take Thursday’s (Apr. 9) non-league affair.
For an improving Braves offense, Ricardo”The Voice: Iniguez collected an RBI single and scored a run. Miguel Rocha also stroked a run-scoring baseehit.
