Grossmont Hills League
Granite Hills 6, Helix 2
EL CAJON — Granite Hills shortstop Anthony Miotti slugged a go-ahead, three-run homer, allowing the Eagles pulled into a virtual deadlock for first place after stopping Helix, 6-3, in Wednesday’s (May 6) make-up game at Granite Hills Field.
Miotti’s blast started a run of six unanswered after runs, moving Granite Hills (18-5 overall) even with the Highlanders in the loss column in the Grossmont Hills League standings.
Helix (15-11 overall) still owns a half-game lead, but Granite Hills still plays one more ballgame with Valhalla, which is winless in GHL play.
The Scotties jumped to a quick 2-0 lead on back-to-back home runs by Angel Watkins and homers by Romeo Briones to lead-off the second inning.
For Briones, his drive to right field was his seventh of the season to briefly share the East County lead.

Owen Glick of Rancho Bernardo lead the CIF-San Diego Section with nine homers.
However, the lead lasted just two pitches, when Watkins went deep to center for his eight of the campaign.
Afterward, Eagles pitcher Hoss Harper settled down, yielding just two additional hits the rest of the way in his complete-game effort. Harper struck out six Highlanders batters, while staying under the pitch count despite five walks, winning for the sixth time on the season.
In the third, four Granite Hills runs started on the Miotti homer, also scoring Brodey Vicars (lead walk) and Preston Hendry (single).
A fourth run scored on an outfield error in the four-run outburst. In the fifth, Jake Ervin lined an RBI single, then Luke Schutza lifted a sacrifice fly.
Avocado League
Ramona 9, Westview 2
At Ramona: The Ramona Bulldogs were not a happy lot, especially after allowing four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in Monday’s disturbing setback to Westview.
So the Dawgs got even.
Scoring five times in the third inning and eventually building leads of 6-0 and 9-1, Ramona knocked Westview out of its share of first place in the Avocado League with a 9-2 thumping of the Wolverines.
The triumph all but wraps up a third-lace finish for Ramona at 17-7 overall (7-5 Avo). Meanwhile, Westvuew (21-5, 11-2 Avo) drops a half-game behind Poway (11-1 Avo). The Titans were scheduled to play at Vista, but there are no reports of a contest being played; Poway doesn’t report to ECS, so we don’t know why there was a cancellation or postponement.
For Ramona, Connor Schwettmann registered three RBI, while Derek Taylor and Cal Melendez each stroked run-scoring doubles.
On the mound, Alex Wilson fired a four-hitter, allowing just one earned run while striking out 11 Wolverines batters.
Game Three in the series is set for Del Sur (east Rancho Santa Fe) on Friday.
