SAN CARLOS – While Torrey Pines captured a  unprecedented eight consecutive Open Division championship, East County was well represented in the finale in each of the other three divisions in boys lacrosse — two claiming CIF-San Diego Section crowns.

In narrow, lose contests, Patrick Herny and Valhalla took home banners with one-goal victories.

The Patriots, playing on their home field (which hosted all four title games), upset too-seeded Westview, SCORE, in Division 2.

In Division 3, Valhalla earned its first-ever title in the sport by golding off Clairemont, 6-5.

Elsewhere, in a battle of the top two seeded — and both nicknamed Eagles — No 2 Santa Fe Christian skated past top-seeded Granite Hills, 11-6.

Valhalla (14-7 overall) mounted a 6-1 halftime cushion, then hung-on to win after third-seeded Clairemont closed with five unanswered goals.

The top-seeded Norsemen received a key save in the final minute by goalie Gabe Kalasho to preserve the triumph. Kalasho, who finished with 12 stops, ended the contest by collecting a loose ball and clearing with a half-field heave to ignite the celebration by Oange Nation.

The early lead came courtesy of attacker Ben Aldridge, who recorded four points on two goals and a pair of assists.

The Chieftains (18-2) posted a second-half shutout, then kept possession b winning a majority of face-offs. The rally included a hat trick by Sean Wicks, who then assisted on the proximity goal by teammate Ollie Klaus in the closing minutes.
