CAMPO – The Mountain Empire RedHawks lost a tough battle to the pass-happy attack of the La Jolla Country Day Torreys on Friday night (Mar. 26) in a 24-7 loss to the visitors all the way from the coast.

The RedHawks hung tough and were down to 12-0 at halftime and came out with a big play to ensure they were going to have a serious opportunity to pull off the upset in the second half.

The offensive highlight for the RedHawks came early in the third quarter when freshman quarterback Corey Vann completed a pass to junior running back Larry Clark, who turned it into a 60-yard completion to the 1-yard line.

Clark had a huge effort for MEHS with 178 yards of total offense, to go along with four sacks on defense, which set a single-game school record.

On the very next play senior running back Aiden Hamada punched it in and the extra point was good to make it 12-7.

The RedHawks’ young offense produced some good drives in the third and fourth quarters but could not sustain them.

Late in the fourth quarter senior free safety Marcus Smith intercepted a pass to keep the Torreys from making the game a blowout.

The RedHawks travel to Crawford next Friday seeking their first victory of the season
