Matadors rally to beat Buccaneers

PACIFIC BEACH —- Following a win over Serra to end an eight-game losing streak over the weekend, the motivated Mount Miguel Matadors scored another nice upset victory Tuesday (Apr. 20), stopping host Mission Bay, 4-3 in eight innings, at Dennis Pugh Field.

The Matadors discovered youthful help for the win. Freshman Jeremiah Castillo collected the game-winning blow for his first career RBI, then, sophomore Eddie Delgado closed the door on Mission Bay for his first career triumph.

Tied at 3-all through four innings, the ball of the bullpens tipped toward the Matadors after Delgado fired two frames of 1-hit ball to register his first career varsity victory.

Thomas Ringer tossed the first six innings, striking out 11, but several Matadors’ errors cost him the victory. However, Delgado registered four of six outs on strikes to stymie the Buccaneers and pick up the win.

Ringer has 25 strikeouts against the Bucs in 12 innings this season. So far this season, Ringer has 68 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched.

In this one, Mission Bay had a pair of bunt singles as two of its three hits off of Ringer.

In extra innings, Ruben Gomez and Joshua Hollis registered consecutive one-out singles. Then with two down, No. 9 hitting Castillo delivered his first career RBI with a double to right field.

For Mount Miguel (4-8), Ringer recorded two hits from the cleanup spot, followed by one hits each by the next five batters on the lineup card.

Mission Bay (8-5) was limited to just four hits, all by the bottom half of the lineup, too.

SD-High Tech 10, ECVHS 0

LIBERTY STATION —- One could surmise that a school named High Tech High of San Diego would be quite efficient in the utilization of a computer.

Instead, the only information transmitted stated the Storm fired a five-inning no-hitter against the Braves — the name of the pitcher wasn’t even included.

Oh, well, hats off to the Storm hurler or hurler(s), whoever he or they were. SD-High Tech is now 3-2 overall. ECVHS falls to 1-7.
