Patrick Henry 0, St. Augustine 0, tie (11 inn.)

KEARNY MESA – Te softball teams from Patrick Henry andSt, Augustine high schools battled deep intao the 11th inning, yet coudn’t find a solution….

Hold it!

Saints is an all-boys school and doesn’t field a girls softball team.

Oh, this was a baseball game. How silly!

Nevertheless, with oneout in the bottom of the 11th at Hickman Field, the umpires said enough was enough in a (softball-like) scoreless draw which could make for wild tie-breakers by the conclusion of the Western League season.

The Patriots aintains a 1-0-1 series advantge, with Game Three slated for Patrick Henry’s field on Thursday.

In maintaining his reputation as the top ballplayer in the league, Pats pitcher Cody Cappelletti struck out eight Saints batter in throwing a 2-hitter over ix innings.

Kayden Henson entered in relef, firing six strikeouts over four solid frames of no-hit baseball.

Still no decision.

Eli Burns started the 11th,registering one out, but aso a hit and a walk. But before St. Augustine had time to steal a win, Mother Nature needed to move “Sol” to bed.

Among Saints pitching, starter Grayson “Mr.Internet” Boles match Cappelletti in also thowing a 2-hitter.

Boles struck out nine Patriots in his seven innings, followed by scoreless innings by Jonny Haskett (3 IP) and Liam Veeramallu (the 11th).

Note No. 1: Te Patriots softball team was excited to actually meet Boles, who is considered a top social media personality in San Diego County.

However, Boles says it is a pjony account and hr doesn’t contribute to the social media site; he has his own site with far fewer readers than the thousands on the other site.

For Patrick Henry (12-6-2 overall, 3-1-1 league), the draw is the ballclub’s second of the season. They also saw darkness fall on them in atie with top-ranked Granite Hills.

Meanwhile, Cathedral Catholic (11-6, 2-0) out-slugged Scripps Ranch, 12-6, moving a half-game above Patrick Henry for first place.

The Dons and Patriots meet three times next week, with Patrick Henry owning the home-field advantage this season.

St. Augustine (12-7-1 overall, 2-2-1 league) remains at .500 in Western play.

Note No. 2: No official decision is being rendered by East County Sports, but since the 11th inning was not completed, it is believed the game’s outcome is in 10 innings —

we’ll allow CIF and San Diego City Conference officials make the choice.

City League

Mira Mesa 3, Christian 1

MIRA MESA – In a complete reversal from Monday’s series opener after Christian won 3-1, Mira Mesa matched the effort with its own 3-1 victory in Tuesday’s (Apr. 22) Westernn League contest.

The finale of the 3-gae set is set for Thursday in El Cjaon.

Marauders pitcher Dylan Pham, a sophomore, struck out only one Patriots batter, but also only allowed a single run in six innings to gain the victory.

Lucas Fletcher tossed the seventh inning for the save, although he did allow a basehit to allow an inherited Christian runner to score.

The dramatic final at-bat for the Patriots saw pinch-hitter Trae Pheasant stroke a lead single, moving to third base on a double by another pinch-hitter in Jacob Zacharzuk.

Fletcher then survived his high-wire act.

After registering a pop out, Joey Nunez sent a line single to left field to place the Patriots onthe scoreboard, with the potential game-tying runners on base.

Max Villalva followed with a ground ball to third base. However, the defender was taching the runner at third and bobbled the ball, loading the bases.

However, Fletcher completed his “Parkway” Act with ashallow fly out and a strikeout to event the series.

Mira Mesa (12-7 overall, 2-3 league) scored single runs in the 1st, 4th and 6th innings, managing just four basehits. However, only one run was earned.

Marauders oitcher Dylan Pham lasted 6-plus innings to narrowly gain the win

Villalva stoke two bases for Christian (12-7, 2-3). which is now tied for third with the Marauders.

Grossmont Hills League

Granite Hills 8, Grossmont 2

FLETCHER HILLS – Granite Hills moved to with one game of a pair of major milestones.

First, the Eagles have now unbeaten in 19 consecutaive regular-season contests following Tuesday’s (Apr. 22) victory, 8-2 over Grossmont at Gizoni Field.

Second, the last regular-season setback for jead coach James Davis and his troops was on Apr. 26, 2024, to Santana. So if the Eagles can come out on top in Thursday’s series finale with the Foothillers at Granite Hills Field, the Eagles would go one full calendar year without a setback.

Speaking of winning streaks, Eagles pitcher Luke Bailey ran his season-long streak to 7-0 with five strog innings.

Reliever Scott Russell fired a pair of no-hit innings to collect the save.

On offense, it was yet another standout performance for shortstop Brenden Lewis , the undisputed leader to become player of the year in the Grossmont Hills League.

Lewis batted batted 4-for-5, including a 2-run homer, scoring three times.

Lewis’ homer, his 5th of the season, again moved him into a tie for the GHL lead with Valhalla catcher Mace Wheeler.

Lewis is also one behind the leaders — three ballplayers with six — as the top power hitter in the entire CIF-San Diego Section.

Meanwhile, Parker Vance and Eurijah Schutza paced Granite Hills (13-0-2 overall, 5-0 leage) with three RBI each.

Vance, a senior, was moved to right field to make room for Schutza, a sophomore who played first base.

For Schutza, he blasted a bases-loaded, two-run double to open the ballgame’s scoring, as the Eagles scored three times in both the first and second innings to grab the early victory.

Grossmont (9-10, 1-2 GHL) received run-scoring hits from first baseman Max Tufugafale and left fielder Colton Burke. Both are juniors.

Helix 3, El Capitan 1 (10 inn.)

LAKESIDE – In a match-up of two ballclubs suffering through mediocre seasons, the Helix Highlanders returned to the ,500 mark following Tuesday’s (Apr. 22) narrow 3-1 decision in 10 innings over host El Capitan at Hostetler Field.

Scotties first baseman Alex Carbajal delivered a two-run double with two down in the 10th, bringing home pinch-runner Bryan Herman and Antoin Simpson.

Jake Johnson started the rally with a lead, line double to right field, moving to third on a sacer bunt by Kie Smith,

El Capitan pitching then hit the next two batters, although one runner as caught stealing.

Nevertheless, Carbajal delivered what turned out to be the game-winning RBI, moving him into second place (behinf Simpson) for the Helix lead for driving in runs.

Simpson then pitched the 10th, retiring the Vaqueros in order to gain the save for winning pitcher Romeo Briones, a freshman., who fired 3.1 frames of relief.

Helix, which collected its initial GHL win in three starts, broke open a scoreless ballgame with a run in the fifth.

Johnson stroked another lead double, followed by an RBI single by Briones with one down.

El Capitan (7-10, 2-3 GHL) was one out away from a shutout loss, then received a break.

After loading the bases Matt Eckis (one-out walk) came home on a wild pitch. Otherwise, EL Capitan collected just four hits.

Non-League

Santana 6, Sweetwater 1

NATIONAL CITY – Santana right fielder Dominic avolazzi scored twice despite resting at the bottom of the Sultnas batting card, but it was the difference ina 6-1 non-league verdict over host Sweetwater on Tuesday (Apr. 222).

Both teams exchanged runs in the first inning, with Santana (7-10 overall) finally moving on top with two runs in the fifth, then three additional markers in the sixth.

The winning rally Xander Bennett and Brandon Landers draw conseuctive one-out walks, sothe Red Devils went to the bullpen.

However, Sultans designated hitter Ryder Davey delicered his second hit, a two-run double on a line drive to right for a 3-1 lead.

The save went to Nathan Dowers, who pitched the final 2.1 innings.

Dowers enter in the fufth to quell a Sweetwater rally, then set down six of the final sevfenSuJi batters he faced,giving the victory to freshman starting pitcher Israel Sanchez.

Sweetwater (8-11) gained a game-tying, RBI double in the first from the ballclub’s top hitter, first baseman Anthony Peralta, to cap a two-out rally.
