 DIVISION I

#7 STEELE CANYON 3, #3 SAN MARCOS 2 – Junior Belle Will struck out seven over seven innings and recorded 21 outs as she picked up the win on Friday afternoon in the big road victory in the elimination bracket victory over San Marcos.

Will in her complete game victory allowed two runs (one earned) while scattering five hits to the Knights.

Offensively the Cougars would strike first as they pushed across a run in the top of the first inning courtesy of Hailey Trujillo who singled to center to bring home Ily Barclay.

San Marcos a couple of innings later in the bottom of the third inning would tie the game at 1-1 on an error by Steele Canyon.

The error wouldn’t phase the Cougars as they would score a run in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Sophia Jackel that scored Natalia Gonzalez. They would add an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning when with two outs Trujillo drove in Barclay to give them a 3-1 lead.

The insurance run would be needed as the Knights would score one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a leadoff home run.

Leading the charge at the plate for the Cougars were Trujillo, Isabella Azevedo, and Barclay who each tallied a pair of hits apiece.

Steele Canyon with the win has now won 8 of their last 10 ballgames and moves onto a third round elimination game against league foe the El Capitan Vaqueros.

#2 EASTLAKE 7, #6 EL CAPITAN 1 – Six early runs scored over the first three innings were more than enough for the Eastlake Titans as they easily won on Friday afternoon over El Capitan.

Despite tallying eight hits on the day the Vaqueros couldn’t string enough together except a lone run in the top of the seventh inning.

Leadoff hitter for the Vaqueros Sofia Simone would tally a 3-for-4 day including scoring the only run, Kylee Frazier who went 2-for-4 would also swipe a couple of bases and Addison Higuera also collected a pair of hits.

El Capitan would score their only run in the top of the seventh inning when Ciara Bernardini roped a lined single to left field that brought home Simone.

Makenna Burton who started for the Vaqueros would take the loss as she allowed seven runs (three earned) on eight hits over six innings in which she walked five while striking out four.

The loss snaps the Vaqueros six game winning streak and brings their record to 17-14.
