2025 SAN DIEGO STARS SUMMER COLLEGIATE BASEBALL
ECS staff report
SANTEE – Absolutely no one expected the San Diego Stars to qualify for the 91st annual National Baseball Congress World Series following the poorest start in the 46-year hisdtory as East County’s premiere summer collegaite baseball team.
However, funnier things have been accomplished following the ballclub’s 3-8 start.
Needing to sweep their final five contests, the Stars capped an incredible 5-0 run by swamping North County United, this summer’s Western Baseball Association champions, in a 19-9 run-rule victory at Santana High School.
The Stars posted a summer-best 11 runs in the in the fifth inning. United answered with three runs in the seventh to avoid the run rule, but only for a moment when the Stars countered with two mnarkers in the home-half of the frame for the walk-oiff victory.
The Stars finished WBA play in a three-way for third place, but advanced via tie-breaker, earning their 29th trip to the NBC World Series.
The Stars will open their bracket — Pool D — against the Hutchison (Kan.) Monarchs from the Jayhawk League on Ffri., July 25.
Hutchison is located a mere 40 miles from Wichita.
The contest will be part of “Baseball Around the Clock,” when all 32 teams play non-stop baseball games on July 25-26. The Stars are scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT (4 p.m. PT) start.
The tournament will be held at Eck Stadium, located on the campus of Wichita State University.
