2025 EAST COUNTY GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL
ECS staff report
ESCONDIDO – In the closest and most exciting game on Championship Saturday for the CIF San Diego Section girls flag football playoffs, PatrickHenry tallied a late touchdown to claim its first crowbm nipping Nt. Carmel, 25-20, for the Division 4 title at EscondidoHigh;s Wilson Stadium.
The outcome came down to dramatic fourth down pass, as Patriots quarterback Lexi Raymond found Ayla-Grace Collins open on a 1-yard dart with 98 seconds remaining.
For Raymond, it was her third TD pass on the afternoon, incuding a pair to Collins.
The play gave the fifth-seeds a 25-13 lead. Mt. Carmel, seeded No. 7, answered in the final seconds, but since there are no kickoffs in flag football, the Pats were able to easily run-out the clock.
Olive Murillo accounted for the other pair of Patrick Henry scores, including a dramatic 49-yard punt return.
The season was dramatically diferent than the 2024 ballclub, when the Patriots fought with Mira Mesa only to fall short TO finish ssecond in the Western League, then ran ut of gas during CIF compeititon.
This season, the Pats finished in the nmiddle of the league pack at 5-5. However, a young squad continued to develop despite the advsence of key veterans who transferred, posting a 3-0 run in the postseason for head coach Lonii Harper.
