VALHALLA 72, SWEETWATER 50
EastCountySports.com
EL CAJON — Valhalla emphatically opened its season Thursday night, rolling past Sweetwater, 72-50, in a home tournament victory that showcased the Norsemen’s depth, efficiency, and interior dominance.
Senior Cole Davis powered Valhalla with a team-high 13 points on 13-of-17 shooting, while seniors George Hinnawi (10 points) and Andrew Mikhail and Roan Furlong (5 points each) helped the hosts push the pace and control the boards.
Valhalla shot a strong 48 percent from the field, with Davis converting at a remarkable 76 percent, and the Norsemen held a decisive 36–20 rebounding edge.
Junior Stavro Basaka added valuable minutes with 8 rebounds and 4 points, helping Valhalla pull away early and stay comfortably in front.
Helix 60, Otay Ranch 37
Helix also opened its season with authority, locking down Otay Ranch in a 60-37 tournament win.
The Highlanders’ length and defensive pressure dictated the tempo throughout as Helix cruised to a wire-to-wire victory to begin their 2025-26 campaign 1-0.
Morse 64, El Cajon Valley 33
After a tight win earlier in the week, El Cajon Valley could not replicate that momentum on the road, falling to Morse, 64-33.
The Braves trailed just 10-8 after the first quarter but saw the Tigers stretch the margin with a 15-point second period and a big fourth quarter that sealed the result.
El Cajon Valley moves to 1-1 following Monday’s 50-47 season-opening win over San Diego Jewish Academy, where a fast 20-point first quarter carried the Braves to the finish.
