RANCHO SAN DIEGO – A sudden surge of defense by Cuyamaca College allowed the Coyotes to transform an extremely close contest into a 10-point lead over arch-rival Grossmont College with seven minutes remaining
A few moments later, the lead stood at 62-53 when the Griffins answered with an incredible run of their own.
Grossmont closed the ballgame with a 21-2 scoring rtun, racing to a 74-64 decision to cap the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference regular season in a rare Saturday (Feb. 21) matinee (3 p.m.) special.

The Griffins finish their PCAC campaign in fifth place at 8-8 after claiming seven of their final eights ballgames. Cuyamaca finishes in a deadlock with San Diego Mesa at 6-10 marks in PCAC action.

The second half saw an 8-poiny cushion disappear, again thanks to Cuyamaca guard Saiah Aquino. a freshman out of Olympian, stole the ball more than a half-dozen times, all leading to transition buckets.
The second Aquino stint gave Cuyamaca its late, 10-point advantage, Hweever, the Griffins shut the door in, perhaps, their biggest scoring spree of the season.
