FLETCHER HILLS — For the second time in nrecnet history, Gr

ossmont College has hired a former NCAA Division I assistant coach to head one of the Griffins women’s programs.

Named to take over thevolleyballprogram is Kara Barkdoll Coy, the former assistant at UC San Diego, who lalso played and coached for Cal State SanMarcos.

The announcement was made byJason Allen, the Interim Associate Dean of Athletics.

Barkdoll Coy sldo owns more than 10 years of experience with many of the top club programs in Southern California, including Wave VBC (Del Mar), Elite VBC (Temecula) and Laguna Beach VBC.

Men’s Volleyball

FLETCHER HILLS — Grossmont College Athletics and Griffin Nation are thrilled to welcome new Head Men’s Volleyball Coach Andrew Shiheiber to our ranks of great coaches! Beginning his freshman year as a young and driven student-athlete within Grossmont College’s Men’s Volleyball Program,

Shiheiber worked extremely hard to represent for the GHouse before transferring to SDSU where he competed on SDSU’s club team while completing his Bachelor’s Degree. Native to Las Vegas, Nevada and it’s scorching hot summers, Coach Shiheiber returned home to be an assistant coach at his old high school and worked very hard to ensure that the Vegas FUL GC PRESS RELEASE

Jason Allen, the https://ucsdtritons.Grossmont’s interim director of athletics for three seasons, announced he will be returning to his former position as a school counsolor this summer.

A search for a new Dean/AD will sonn commence.

Allen was credited for keeping the program together, even though three key coaches switched schools anf took most of the players witrh them to competing schools in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.

However, to overcomme such losses, Allen took the lead for developing a new women’s flag football team.

Baseball

Since Grossmont dropped a 2-game series to Palomar to break the first-place deadlock between the teams, the Griffins have gone 3-3 over the oast two weeeks.

Unless there is a record-collapse by the Comets, the Griffins shoudl finish in second place in the PCAC standings.

Thus, head coach Randy Abshire has wisely is not over-working or fatiguing his pitching staff to get them reeadsy for the 3C2A state plsyofs in May.

Women’s Softball

Kaleigh Baugher

BAKERSFIELD – Although Grossmont softball seems desined to finish fourth in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, a state playff berth is still possibld azfyer the Griffins swept a pair of allgames to capture the Bakersfield Tournament.

The Griffins 14-16 overall)_ swamped the Cuesta Cougars (San Luis Obispo), 11-1, then took down the hist Renegades, 9-0.

]Against Cuesta, the Griffins scored three times in the sixth inning to invole the run rule.

Griffins pitcher Kaleigh Baugher tossed a 2-hitter, then also paced the offene with three RBI.

Against Bakersfield, Baugher fired another 2-hitter, but this time registered the shutout. She recorded six strikeouts.

Driving in two runs each for Grossmont were center fielder Valerie Hernandez, shortstop Kameron McDaniel and catcher Madison Loper.

Baugher, a freshman out of Granite Hills HS, was named the Player of the Tournament by the nedua.
