EL MONTE (6-2-26) – In a contest that would see bonus ball the fifth seeded Grossmont Foothillers used three doubles to start the ninth inning to push across three runs to claim the 7-4 road victory over the fourth seeded Arroyo Knights on Tuesday afternoon.
Grossmont early on would take a 2-0 lead thanks to Madison Busch who drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Sahara Roope grounding out that allowed a run to score.
Arroyo Grande would tie the game up as they pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom half of the third inning.
The Knights would take their first lead in the bottom of the fourth when they scored a run on an error by the Foothillers.
Grossmont would retake the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Roope blasted a two run dinger to right field to make it 4-3.
Arroyo would again tie up the score as they answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly.
With neither team scoring in the sixth and seventh innings the game would go into extras and it wouldn’t be until the top of the ninth inning that the game would be decided.
Leading off for the Hillers in the top of the ninth was Skyler Glover who lined a double to right field, she would come around to score when Busch followed up with a double to center field to make it 5-4, Roope followed with another double to make it 6-4 and later in the inning Jaiden Jacques drove in the final run to make it 7-4.
Earning the victory for the Hillers was Saraya Roope who allowed eight hits and four runs (one earned) while walking five and striking out four.
Grossmont with the victory which is their first ever in State Regional playoff action now moves to 19-11-1 overall and will next take on top seeded Madison for the third time this season including most recently in the Division IV San Diego CIF Section championship which the Warhawks won.
