Former Granite Hills Star Trenton Brooks Collects First Hit with Astros Affiliate
EL CAJON — Former Granite Hills High standout Trenton Brooks is back in affiliated baseball and already making an impact in the Houston Astros organization.
Brooks, who signed a minor league contract with Houston on June 8 after a stint in the Korean Baseball Organization, recorded his first hit and RBI for the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys on June 10.

With Sugar Land trailing Sacramento 2-0 in the eighth inning, Brooks lined an RBI single to left field, scoring Zach Dezenzo and cutting the deficit to 2-1. The hit marked Brooks’ first knock and first run batted in since joining the Astros organization.
The RBI single came just two days after Brooks signed with Houston following his release from the Kiwoom Heroes of South Korea’s KBO League. The 30-year-old East County product spent 41 games overseas before returning to the United States in search of another major league opportunity.
A former Granite Hills Eagles standout and University of Nevada product, Brooks has appeared in 37 major league games with the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres over the last two seasons. While his big-league opportunities have been limited, Brooks has established himself as a consistent Triple-A performer, compiling a career .279 batting average with a .382 on-base percentage and .472 slugging percentage at the highest level of the minor leagues.
Houston’s organization is known for rewarding productive veteran players with opportunities, and Brooks will look to build on his strong Triple-A track record as he settles into his new club.
For one of Granite Hills’ most accomplished professional alumni, the journey toward another major league call-up continues.
