SPRING VALLEY (6-18-15) — Longtime Monte Vista icon ZACH PECK has resigned his post as the Monarchs Athletic Director, effective this week.

Peck has served the past 13 years as Athletic Director after toiling 19 seasons as Monte Vista’s boys basketball coach.

“I think I’m really lucky to have coached at Monte Vista,” said Peck. “Fortunately I’ve been blessed with a flood of good athletes coming through our system. We’ve been very competitive. Against quality competition we had to play well to be successful.”

Peck took his Monarchs to the San Diego Section CIF finals in 1987 and 1992. They reached the semifinals in 1993 and 1996.

An English teacher, Peck played his prep basketball at St. Augustine and also at San Diego Mesa College under the late Jay Mulvehal. Peck spent five years coaching at USDHS (now Cathedral Catholic).

Peck has mentored several blue chip athletes, including WILL GOODLOE, MICHAEL WILEY, and his sons JASON and TREVOR PECK. Goodloe, a tight end in football and a center for the Monarchs basketball team is now a high school football coach in Texas, while Wiley is also an assistant high school football coach in the Lone Star state. Jason Peck is a doctor in North Carolina, while Trevor is attending law school in Georgia.

ALL IN THE FAMILY
ANESSA (PECK) CARROLL, Zach’s daughter, will take over her father’s post as the Monarchs Athletic Director. She is also an English teacher at the school.

Anessa is married to DONNIE CARROLL, who is the Athletic Vice Principal at Grossmont High. They have one child, four-year old ELLIE.

“I’ve been around sports my whole life and I don’t plan massive changes in the Monte Vista program,” said Anessa. “I’m proud of the way my Dad ran things, and I know he and my husband will always be there if I need support. I want our coaches to feel support from me.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL COACHING CHANGE
Anessa has already made one move.

Following the resignation of 10-year veteran girls basketball coach MICHAEL SKIBBE from the Monte Vista courts, Anessa Peck has hired MEGAN FORD as head coach of the girls basketball program and San Diego State standout SANDY WRIGHT as her assistant. Both coaches are Monte Vista alumni.
