EL CAJON (6-11-15) — The competition in the East County was fast and furious with many players having outstanding seasons which made it all too close to call.
Many of the East County teams made the playoffs in pretty much every division with many making deep runs, highlighted by the Granite Hills Eagles, which went on to finish as runner-up in the San Diego Section Division II championship and finish with a 25-10 record.
Granite Hills’s ERIN COYNE was tabbed Coach of the Year as she guided the Eagles to the Championship game for the first time since 2008.
As for the other awards everything was pretty much for the taking. Patrick Henry second baseman SIERRA ALTMEYER and Valhalla outfielder DANIELLE UY were tabbed EastCountySports.com Co-Players of the Year.
When it came to the pitching this season, three pitchers stood out especially in crunch time and because of this they were tabbed Co-EastCountySports.com Pitchers of the Year.
MADISON “MJ” JAMES (Patrick Henry) who helped win the Eastern League crown and carry the Patriots deep into the Open Division of the playoffs, TESS EATON (West Hills) who had a big hand in the Wolf Pack winning the Grossmont Hills league crown and also was clutch in the Division One second round contest against Ramona, tossing all 12 innings in the victory especially when the Bulldogs had runners in scoring position with less than one down, and finally HALLE KYLER (Granite Hills) who pretty much dominated in the Division II playoffs especially in the Semi-Finals against Escondido, getting out of the bases loaded jam and in the final inning retiring the Cougars in order to propel the Eagles to the Division II Championship game.
