Dunklin hits floater in finals seconds to lift Hawks

SANTEE – Dalante Dunklinscored 22 points but none were as crucial as his floater with three seconds left as his shot secured the comeback win for the Hawks on Saturday night against Benedictine Mesa 70-68.

• Dunklin’s 22 points were a game high.

• Hawks shot 54 percent from the floor, including 43 percent from beyond the arc.

• SDC was 14-20 from the charity stripe

• Trevor English and Nathan Klekas were also in double figures with 16 and 13 respectively.

• The Hawks’ largest lead was seven points, which they led at the break, 37-30.

• SDC forced 18 turnovers while only turning the ball over 11 times.

• SDC’s bench outscored Red Hawk’s bench 15-6.

STAT OF THE GAME:

• Eight different Hawks players recorded an assist.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• With the win, the Hawks have now gone 2-0 in the past two seasons.

SDC outlasts UAV in opener behind English’s five three-pointers

Lancaster – The Hawks put up 52 points in the first half and goes 9-of-12 from the three-point line to beat University of Antelope Valley 93-70 in the season opener.

INSIDE THE GAME:

• SDC’s Trevor English scored 17 points on 5-of-11 from the field and 5-of-5 from the three point line.

• Five Hawks players were in double figures.

• SDC shoots 75 percent from the three-point line.

• The Hawks shoot an impressive 60 percent from the field, while the Pioneers shoot a promising 53 percent.

• SDC forced 15 turnovers against the Pioneers while only giving the ball up eight times.

• The Hawks held a slight rebounding advantage at 28-27.

• Eighteen points for the Hawks came off of Pioneer turnovers.

STAT OF THE GAME:

• Trevor English steals the show going 5-5 from downtown.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

The Pioneers played their inaugural game against the Hawks. SDC has won the last three season openers.

“Every win is big but it’s always good to start the season on the right foot,” Coach Edgar Mendez said. “Trevor scored 17 in the first half and helped us get a big lead. We shared the ball around as five guys were in double figures with others lurking at nine and eight points. Good overall win for our guys.”

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine shot 58 percent from the floor and held the Hawks to 26 percent as the Wave defeated SDC 91-49 in an exhibition game Monday night.
