SPRING VALLEY (12-13-15) — SATERA BATES knocked down 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while AMBER HARD got 18 points and 10 rebounds and newcomer DESTINI ANDERSON chipped in with 17 points and 10 rebounds to guide host Mount Miguel past Horizon 71-53 in Saturday’s (Dec. 12) Black Division championship game of the Matador Classic
“Hard was able to get her points off hustle,” said Mount Miguel coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL. “She’s really been balling lately.
Bates baffled the Panthers’ box-and-one defense and still got her points.
“She has a nice little stepback shot,” Sandoval noted.
“Even though it looked like we just rolled them, our transition defense was just awful,” he said of the 4-2 Matadors.”
LAILA SMITH led the Matadors with 9 assists and CAMARA DOUGLAS grabbed 8 boards.
A game to watch will be Monday’s (Dec. 14) Platinum Championship bout pitting No. 1 Mission Hills against No. 2 Bishop’s at Mount Miguel at 7 p.m.
