EL CAJON (12-23-15) — It’s a strange arrangement in the Orange Glen Christmas Jamboree. That is, the scheduling seems off.

Not only does the semifinal begin at 8 a.m. – a bizarre time in itself – in Escondido, the match-up pits a pair of Grossmont Conference rivals, El Cajon Valley and Grossmont for the early game.

“This isn’t fair,” commented El Cajon Valley veteran coach CARLOS MOSS. “We’ll have to get up at 6 a.m., as will Grossmont, and travel to play in front of an empty gym.”

EL CAJON VALLEY 31, EL CAPITAN 29 – LEANNA WATSON knocked down 14 points, recorded 11 steals and dished 6 scoring passes for the Braves, who slipped past El Capitan in Tuesday’s (Dec. 22) Orange Glen Christmas Jamboree.

Not to be overlooked was SUMAY HAMEED who pulled down 12 rebounds to go with her 8 points and 5 steals for the Braves.

MARIE COOK rolled a double-double for the Vaqueros with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Vaqueros struggled from the free throw line where they made only 6 of 24 chances.

TAYLOR FAGAN scored 11 points, the majority coming on three triples. She also pulled down 5 rebounds.

Silas nailed 3 of 7 from 3-point distance, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 4 steals for Grossmont (8-1).

“We are the No. 2 seed and if we beat El Cajon Valley, we will more than likely be playing the Arizona team (Leading Edge Spartans) again if we make it to the championship game,” said Grossmont coach GRACE CAMPBELL.
