Full contribution Griffins make winning routine

CHULA VISTA (3-23-16) — After hitting a speedbump against Palomar last week, the Grossmont College Griffins are back mowing down opponents.
Tuesday (Mar. 22) saw the Griffins (16-6, 9-1 PCAC) defeat the Southwestern Jaguars (9-11, 6-4 PCAC) by a 7-1 count at The Junction on the campus of Southwestern College.
Seven of the nine starters collected a hit for the Green and Gold. ALAN STRONG (6-0, Santana) did his part on the mound scattering eight hits across seven and a third innings, allowing only one unearned run to score and striking out four batters.
ROBERT BOSTEDT (Granite Hills) and TRAVOR BEARD (San Clemente) each collected a pair of hits, while TANNER PERRY (Steele Canyon) and MICHAEL DIFFLEY (Granite Hills) each had a pair of runs batted in.
The scoring got started in the second inning when JUSTIN MITCHELL (Granite Hills) walked with one out. JUSTEN BURKEY (San Pasqual) singled moving Mitchell up a position. CABOT VAN TIL (Patrick Henry) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Diffley singled to bring in Burkey and Mitchell and moving Van Til to third. Bostedt then singled to bring in Van Til for a 3 run inning.
Grossmont thought that the second inning was so much fun, they did it again in the third. NOAH STROHL (La Jolla) singled to lead the inning off and was followed by a Beard triple to plate Strohl. After a fly out, Mitchell lofted a ball to left field deep enough for Beard to tag up and score for a 5-0 lead.
Southwestern tallied their lone run in the bottom of the inning. FREDDY WALKER (Grossmont) collected the RBI when he grounded out to the shortstop.
In the fourth the Griffins had Diffley at second and Bostedt on first with one out. Perry then welcomed JUSTIN JAIME (Valhalla) pretty rudely as he took his third pitch and doubled home both Diffley and Bostedt for the final 7-1 score.
The same two teams will meet at Noel Mickelsen Field on Thursday (Mar. 24) for a 2:00 p.m. start. The weeklong series will conclude on Friday (Mar. 25) at 2:00 p.m.
