SANTEE (4-2-16) — In a Grossmont Conference crossover contest, the Santana Sultans hosted the Monte Vista Monarchs and came away with the 15-2 victory in 5 innings, Friday (Apr. 1).

The offense for the Sultans pounded out 17 hits on the day which allowed them to score 11 runs in the first inning and 15 total in the first three innings.  First inning highlights for the Sultans included a leadoff triple by MADDY MENDEZ (1-2, 3B), ASHLEY MADRIGAL (2 R, SB) came into run and came around to score on the RBI single by MACKENZIE BENNETT (2-3, 4 RBI, 3B).  JORDAN TEEGARDEN (3-3, 4 RBI, 3 R, 3B) would smash a three-run triple and Bennett would do it again with a three-run triple.  Santana would also receive RBI singles from CELINE MENARD (1-4, RBI, R), CASSIDY MATTHIE (3-3, RBI, 2 R) and SYDNEY VATES (2-3, RBI, 2 R). When it was all said and done the Sultans led 11-0 after the first inning.

Santana added four more in the bottom of the third inning to make it 15-0 as Vates, RACHEL WILSON (2-3, RBI, 3 R, SB) and Matthie consecutively singled.  Vates scored on the throw and Wilson scored on a single by Teegarden.  SYDNEY BENJAMIN (2-3, RBI, R) singled allowing Teegarden to score to round out the runs.

The Monarchs would get on the board with a couple of runs in the top of the fifth inning as IONAA UPHAM (1-3, R) singled, GENNA HENDERSON (1-3, RB) singled which scored Upham, CIERRA ROSS (3-3, R) singled to right field, MARIAH WHITEHEAD (3-3, RBI) singled to center allowing Ross to score.

Mendez took the circle for the Sultans and garnered the victory as she tossed 3 innings of 3 hit ball, giving up 0 runs and striking out 1 on the day.

Granite Hills 12, El Capitan 2 – The Granite Hills Eagles traveled to Lakeside for their Grossmont Conference crossover contest against the El Capitan Vaqueros and in the end would grab the 12-2 victory in 5 innings Friday (Apr. 1).

Leadoff hitter KAREN CREECH (1-3, 2 RBI, R) started it off with a walk, stole second, moved to third on the single by CASSIDY SHEW (1-4, 2 R) and would score on the grounder by HALLE KYLER (RBI) to make it 1-0.  JESSIE LAPIERRE (2-3, RBI, 2 2B) would get hit by a pitch, HALEY BUDVARSON (2 R) came into run, RACHEL RILEY (2-3, RBI, 2 R) singled to center and SYDNEY HUSE (3-3, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2B)  doubled in Riley, MORGAN KELLY (2-3, RBI, R) drove in Huse on a single to right field to make the score 5-0.

Granite Hills would tack on three more runs in the third inning and also four in the top of the fourth to lead 12-0.  El Capitan broke through with a run in the bottom of the fourth when ALYSON VON YOKES (2-3, RBI, R) singled, advanced to second on the GRACE BURKETT walk, moved to third on the fielders choice by KIM GARCIA. Von Yokes would score on an error by the Eagles to make it 12-1. The Vaqueros tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when MADISYN WIEHER (2-3, R) singled with 2 outs, she would come in to score a couple of batters later when Von Yokes singled to center field.

Also shining for the Vaqueros was ZANDRA RAGALE who went 2-3 with a double on the day.

For the Eagles, CATIE DOBBS took the circle and spun the 5 inning complete game victory, giving up the 2 runs of which only 1 was earned while striking out 4 on the day.

Grossmont 16, Mount Miguel 0 – In Grossmont Conference crossover action Friday (Apr. 1) the Grossmont Foothillers hosted the Mount Miguel Matadors and won easily 16-0 in 5 innings.

The Foothillers put the contest away early on as they exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead 9-0. They never looked back after that.

Offensively for Grossmont, KAILEY DANIELS went 3-4 and banged in 4 runs, and AMBER ALLMAN went 2-4 with an RBI.

Pitching wise CASSIDY DAVILA tossed the 4 1/2 inning complete game victory in which she struck out 8 while only giving up a single hit.

Bishops 9, Helix 4 – The Bishops Knights traveled to La Mesa for a Helix Highlander Classic contest under the lights to take on the host Helix Highlanders.  They were able to garner the 9-4 victory over the Highlanders to move into the championship game on Saturday, (Apr. 2).
