EL CAJON (4-12-16) — In a rare midseason move, Valhalla baseball coach MIKE BANDO resigned his post as the Norsemen’s varsity skipper on Monday (April 11).

It was widely known that Bando was struggling in his second year at the Norsemen helm as Valhalla has won only 1 of 13 games. Bando and his wife welcomed a baby on opening day of the 2016 season and it is believed the coach wanted to spend more time with his family rather than continue to pilot the Norsemen.

In his first season at Valhalla Bando guided the Norsemen to a 12-14-1 record, which included a 6-6 finish in the Grossmont Hills League.

Valhalla athletic director ROBERT WILSON, who has previously served the baseball program as an assistant coach seven years ago when his brother MIKE J. WILSON was head coach, will become the Norsemen’s interim coach for the remainder of this season.

As an athlete, Wilson played both baseball and basketball at Granite Hills.

Valhalla will seek applicants for a fulltime replacement following the completion of this season.

Wilson stated that he has no other comments at this time.
