POWAY – In a offensive barrage early on, the No. 1 seed Grossmont Foothillers had their way often with the visiting No. 3 seeded Serra Conquistadors in the CIF San Diego Section Division III semifinals, taking an 8-0 whitewashing on Thursday (May 26) up at the Poway Sportsplex.
The Foothillers started things early on in the bottom of the first as they found their way home to a tune of four runs.
The usual suspect CHLOE CAMARERO (4-4, RBI, 2R, 3B) singled, DESTINY BACON (1-3) singled, SAMARIA ROOPE (2-4) singled up the middle to load the bases. The next batter CARLY PEARSON knocked in Camarero and MEGAN MALWITZ (4-4, 3 RBI) drove in both Pearson and LILI FLORES who came into run for Roope. Grossmont led 4-0.
Grossmont extended its lead in the bottom of the second inning as JESSICA WILSON (1-3) singled and Camarero boomed a triple to score her to make it 5-0. The Foothillers added to the damage in the bottom of the fourth with three runs to lead 8-0.
Leading things off Camarero doubled, Bacon sacrifice her to third, TAYLOR BAEZ (1-4, RBI) knocked in Camarero with a single to left, Pearson roped a double scoring Baez and Malwitz finished it off with a single to center scoring Pearson.
Pitching wise, the Foothillers dominated as Roope shut down the Conquistadors limiting them to only 2 hits on the day.
Roope tossed 6 innings, 2 hits, walked 3 and struck out 3 while CASSIDY DAVILA went 1 inning to finish out the game.
For the first time since 2011, the Foothillers will make an appearance in the championship game where they will face University City, which was able to defeat Serra in the semifinal elimination game.
UNIVERSITY CITY 9, SERRA 0 – In a game that would be played up at the Poway Sportsplex, the No. 3 seeded Conquistadors couldn’t get anything going as they lost the semi-final elimination bracket game to the No. 5 seeded Centurions of University City. No other information was provided.
