NATIONAL CITY (12-21-16) — Less than 18 hours after their head coach called a few players out for not having their head in the game, the Helix Highlanders played like they got the message loud and clear.

On Tuesday (Dec. 20), the Highlanders (7-2) defeated the Lady Byng Grey Ghosts of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada by a 71-51 score line at the Sweetwater/National City Lions Club tournament and punched their ticket to the semifinal in the process.

“I thought after the first quarter, we played pretty solid defense,” Helix head coach JOHN SINGER stated.  “Everything stems off our defense.”

DYLAN LEE paced the Helix offense with 16 points.  Joining him with double-digit scoring figures were CARSON BAKER (12) and ARNOLD (10).  There were three other Highlanders that were within a bucket of joining the trio.

The win clinched the Highlanders semifinal game tonight (Dec. 21) as they will take on the winner of the pool C, which is Patrick Henry. The two pool winners will face at 8:00 p.m. tonight in Sweetwater’s “New” Gym as the night cap.

Helix:  Dylan Lee 16 (3 reb., 1 ast, 1 stl), Carson Baker 12 (6 reb., 3 ast., 1 stl, 1 blk), Jaylen Arnold 10 (1 reb, 3 ast, 3 stls), Amari Green 9 (3 reb, 3 ast, 2 stls), Jumar Wynn 8 (1 reb, 1 ast), Jaylen Hinson 8 (7 reb, 1 ast).
