Champ Griffins off to quickest of starts

CHULA VISTA (1-28-17) — Designated hitter NIKO NAVARRO drove in 4 runs to key a 6-run first inning for Grossmont College in Friday’s (Jan. 27) season-opening win over Victor Valley at Southwestern College.

Clean-up hitter NOAH STROHL added a pair of RBI as the Griffins took a 6-0 lead in the first inning.

Catcher TREVOR BEARD slugged a double to drive in a run, while MICHAEL DIFFLEY scored on the double by Beard.

Grossmont finished with 11 hits.

ANDREW MITCHELL held Victor Valley to 3 hits and one run in a 4-inning stint to earn the win.

As a team Grossmont struck out 8, walked 9 and surrendered a home run to VVC’s Josh Gooding. Gooding finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.

Noan Welch was 1 for 2 with 3 RBI for VVC.
