Hawks find GSAC road bumpy early on

COSTA MESA (2-25-17) — The host Vanguard Lions took a 4-3 lead over visiting San Diego Christian College with a run in the bottom of the 5th inning and held on for a Golden State Athletic Conference win by that final margin on Friday.

The Hawks tied the game in the 5th only to surrender the lead on a home run by the Lions’ Jacob Leal.

Vanquard added another run in the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Perry (Steele Canyon).

San Diego Christian took the early lead in the 1st inning on an RBI double by BROOKS FAGES.

JOSHUA SIDLEY was 3-for-4 in the Hawks’ leadoff spot. He scored on a 1st inning double by JUSTIN HAWKINS, who advanced to third on a single to left by VAHN BOZOIAN.

Hawkins scored on a base hit by Sidley to make it 2-0.

In the 5th inning TYLER WILSON grounded out to second, scoring ZACHARY AMBROSE.

Vanquard put the game away on a single to right field by Bryce Wetherell.

Junior JEREMIAH WILEY spun three innings of shutout relief, striking out three.

The Hawks (3-8, 2-5 GSAC) will face Vanguard (11-7, 6-1 GSAC) on Saturday morning in a double header starting at 11 a.m.
