Foothillers start hot; Pack wins Santee

EL CAJON VALLEY def. GOMPERS, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15 – Senior Andrea Velasquez led the Braves in serving with 9 aces while sophomore Precious Inyang dominated at the net with 4 blocks. Junior Ayannah Wrigh also led the braves offense.

FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN def. LIBERTY CHARTER, 25-15, 20-25, 24-256, 25-23, 17-15 – The Knights won the East County battle over the Lions.

The Knights improved to 2-0, while the Lions fell to 6-2.

GROSSMONT def. SANTANA, 25-16, 25-7, 25-21 – Kills: Collantes (G) 12.

CARLSBAD – The Grossmont Foothillers improved to 3-0 by winning here in five games over the host Lancers Thursday night by the scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-12, 18-25, 15-8.

Junior MEGAN COLLANTES had 21 kills for the Hillers, while senior teammate EMILY BARNES served five aces.

Senior KELLI SCOTT had seven blocks for Grossmont, while junior teammate KENNEDY DIRKES had 43 digs.

Junior MALLIE SMITH dished out 48 assists for the Foothillers, who face Santana next on Tuesday at 5:30 in Santee.

 

WEST HILLS 3, SANTANA 0 – West Hills swept the winless Sultans in the cross-town battle Thursday night 25-14, 25-12, 25-12.

The Wolf Pack are now 1-1, while the Sultans are 0-4.

West Hills faces Olympian on Sept. 5 at 5:30 on the road.

It was a nice bounceback for the Pack after a tough opener against defending open division champion Santa Fe Christian.

West Hills is led by sophomore setter COLEEN KENNEDY and senior outside hitters GRACE DOWNING and HAILEY MORRIS.

 

VALHALLA 3, BONITA VISTA 0 – Valhalla improved to 2-0 as MACKENZIE CHILDS led the Lady Norsemen in kills with 8, while MAX RAY had 12 assists and NINA FOLZ had 3 Aces.

Valhalla won 25-16, 25-21, 25-17.

Valhalla’s next match on Tuesday, September 12 at Grossmont High School at 5:30 PM.

 

Elsewhere…

Christian moved to 4-0 by sweeping Clairemont in three. The Patriots are home against Hoover on Wednesday, September 6 at 5.
