One-win Lancers stun Wolf Pack

CHULA VISTA – After a long and much needed break, the West Hills Wolf Pack kept it close all game against the Hilltop Lancers, however, came up a few points shy of the win, 63-59.

West Hills rallied with with 22 points in the 4th quarter, but problem was Hilltop led through the whole contest.

West Hills (6-5) came to the South Bay more than likely licking their chops, well rested and facing a 1-12 team at the time, now 2-12.

Hilltop led the Wolf Pack 29-24 at the half.

“Hilltop shot very well, I tip my cap to how well they played, but we really struggled as well to get our
flow going after the time off,” said West Hills assistant coach TIM BARRY.

CAM BARRY scored six points in the opening quarter and was 8-for-15 from the field for 25 points and 11 rebounds in the contest.

CADE RALEY chipped in 10 points and freshman ASHTON AVESTRO made his varsity debut hitting 2 3-pointers and scored 8 points, including five in the fourth.

After the score was tied 6-all with 4:45 left in the first, Hilltop led 14-11 after one period.

The Lancers extended the lead to nine points after three before the Pack made the mild comeback in the fourth.

West Hills put up 22 points over the final eight minutes, but Hilltop (2-12) won for just the second time this season.

MICHAEL TOTAH contributed nine points  for West Hills.

The Lancers made 18-of-22 from the foul line.

West Hills will clean up miscues and will face El Capitan (5-8) at West Hills on Tuesday January 8 at 7:30 pm.

 

 

MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 55, VALHALLA 44 – Maranatha opened up on a 1-point first-quarter lead by outscoring the Norsemen 16-9 in the second period in a game at the Santana New Year’s Classic.

Valhalla (3-10) will face Madison (6-10) on Wednesday at 5:30 on the road.
