SANTANA 5, MORSE 1

The Sultans who have been a roll of late winning their last contest and also 3-1-1 dating back to the end of last year really did a number against the Tigers in a non-league contest.

Early on both teams went back and forth but the Sultans were able to take control and dominate on the attack and take advantage of a shot by Sophomore Nathan Hughes to make it 1-0 after only thirteen minutes of play. The Sultans would then take advantage of another opportunity about five minutes later as they went on the attack and Sophomore Lane Dukes put it in the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season to make it 2-0.

Santana already with a two goal lead and it wasn’t even twenty minutes into the first half of the contest really took it to the Tigers as they scored again a couple minutes later when Senior Zane Moore found the back of the net for his first goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-0.  The Tigers were finally given an opportunity to score when the Sultans were called for a penalty in the box with nine minutes remaining. Morse took advantage of the opportunity to cut into the lead 3-1.

Santana had various other opportunities in the first half as they completely dominated the Tigers on the offensive end of the field and could have made the score worse but couldn’t find the back of the net. To which the Sultans had to suffice with a 3-1 lead at the break.

Heading into the second half the Sultans looked to continue their dominance and that they did three minutes into the second half when Junior Omar Nuristani scored his sixteenth goal of the season to make it 4-1. He would again find the net a few minutes later for his second goal of the contest.

Also contributing in the contest were Kurtis Ours who had an assist. Besides scoring goals Nuristani, Moore and Dukes all had assists as well.

For the Sultans defense was so dominant and the ability to keep the ball on the end of the Tigers was so prevalent that Senior goalkeeper Tim Caravero had an easy night. He only had to make 2 saves in the contest.

With the victory the Sultans now push their record to 8-4-3 and have won two in a row and also look to move up from the 9th spot in Division III.  They will next have a home game as they take on O’Farrell Charter who sports a 12-2-2 record and is ranked No. 2 in Division IV on Friday at 4:30pm before starting league next Tuesday January 16th at home against Valhalla at 4:30 pm.
