2018 GROSSMONT GRIFFINS BASKETBALL
EastCountySports.com staff report
EL CAJON – Grossmont College freshman KADE KYGAR, from El Capitan High, made four three-pointers in the first half on the way to a season-high 18 points, helping the Griffins dismantle district foe Cuyamaca College, 81-42, on Wednesday night.
Kygar and sophomore teammate RONALD BLAIN both had 12 points in the first half, as Grossmont racked up 52 points before intermission and led by 25 points.
Blain finished with a team-high 20 points.
Kyger had six three-pointers overall in the contest.
Also in double figures for the Griffs were freshmen CHRIS MOYER and TYLER PELOQUIN, both with 10 points.
For Cuyamaca, former Santana High quarterbacking star FRANKIE GUTIERREZ had 21 points, including three three-pointers.
“We played really well as a team,” Grossmont head coach DOUG WEBER said. “All the subs played really well playing the second half of both halves.
“We played really good defense, only allowing 15 points in the second. Now we have a big game versus Southwestern on Friday.”
Grossmont (18-8, 7-2 PCAC South) defeated the Jaguars on the road in overtime, 82-77, back on Jan. 26.
Friday’s game is the season finale.
