Behind a great pitching performance by Grace Richter and also the offense scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning they were able to put away the visiting Pirates.
The Cougars started off in the bottom of the second when Maggie Carpenter led off with a single, Bianca Morales followed with a double and Amanda Whipple drove them both in with a hard hit single up the middle to make it 2-0.
Steele Canyon in the bottom of the fifth started with an Elizabeth Bott hit by pitch, Masen Pearlstein singled, JJ Venzor reached on an error to load the bases, Audrey Bagge hit a sacrifice fly that scored Bott, Carpenter singled scoring Pearlstein, and Tayler Thomas lined a single that scored Venzor and Morales came into score on a passed ball to round out the scoring.
The Cougars had another shot to add more in the bottom of the sixth when Marley Rimoldi hit a double but she would be stranded.
Richter and the Cougars defense in the top of the seventh preserved the win by retiring the Pirates in order.
In the loss for the Pirates, Julia Ceballos went 5 innings, giving up 8 runs of which 5 were earned on 7 this and struck out 2.
Richter for the Cougars went 7 innings fort eh complete-game victory, giving up 0 runs on 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1.
WEST HILLS 9, EL CAMINO 1
The return of Carly Bursch for West Hills really propelled them as she tossed a 1 hit complete game gem against the Wildcats for the victory.
West Hills offensively got rolling in the bottom of the first as they pushed across four runs to lead 4-0. Leadoff hitter Haley Valles doubled and scored when the center fielder mis-placed the ball hit by Alyssa Bubar, she advanced to second on the error, Ashleigh Hartwig walked, Star Gaylord doubled which scored Bubar and Hartwig.
The Wolf Pack added two more runs in the bottom of the second on a Gabby Clippinger triple that scored both Bubar and Gaylord to push the lead 6-0.
They would go on to round out their scoring in the bottom of the fourth when Juels Fossing drove in Gaylord with a single.
El Camino got their only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Bursch tossed 5 innings, giving up 1 run on 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 7.
