Foothillers, Sultans crush in Jaguar Classic contests

The bats came alive for the Foothillers early on and the defense did the rest to put the Centurions away.

Leading things for the Hillers, Katie Appenzeller (RUN) walked, Kimmy Bond (3-4, 3R) singled, Appenzeller advanced to third on a passed ball and Jordan Brown (1-1, 3R, RBI, 3B) walked to load the bases. With the bases full and one out Samaria Roope singled to left scoring both Appenzeller and Bond, Jamie Medlin (3R) in to run, Aly Allmann (2-3, R, 2 RBI) followed with a single to make it 3-0. A couple batters later Jessica Medlin (1-4, 2 RBI) laced a ball that was misplayed which allowed both Medlin and Allmann to score to make it 5-0.

Grossmont added two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a Jessica Medlin single to center that scored both Brown and Medlin which gave the Hillers a 7-0 lead.

A Jordan Brown triple in the bottom of the fourth scored Bond and Brown scored on an error to push their lead to 9-0.

University City finally put some offense together to score three runs to make it 9-3 in the top of the fifth inning.

However, Grossmont answered with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kati Contreras (1-4, R, RBI) laced a single that scored Bond, Brown is hit by a pitch, Roope is hit by a pitch, Brianna Blue in to run, Allmann singled to score Contreras, Candace Henderson singled to score Blue and Rainee Foster singled to score Medlin to finish things off.

Roope for Hillers went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs of which all were earned on 8 hits while striking out 4.

 

SANTANA 12, DEL NORTE 1

The Sultans put the big Sultan Swat offensively on the Night Hawks to claim the road victory.

It was all Sultans early starting in the top of the first inning when Mackenzie Bennett (2-4, R, 3 RBI, 2B, HR) smashed a three-run homer that scored Madison Mendez (2-4, R, RBI, 2B) who doubled and Krysten Service (1-4, R, RBI) who was hit by a pitch to make it 3-0. They added another run when Shelby Holmquist (2-4, R, RBI, 2B) roped a double that scored Ashley Madrigal (2-3, 3R, 2 RBI, HR) and rounded out on a sacrifice fly by Marilyn Downing (2 RBI) to score Lakaila Aquiningoc-David (3-3, 2R) which pushed the score to 5-0.

With two outs in the top of the second inning, Bennett doubled, Mackenzie Sims in to run and would score on a single by Joey Barkhimer(2-4, 2R, RBI, 2B). Santana added two more runs when Ashley Madrigal bashed a two-run blast over the left field fence to make it 8-0.

The Nighthawks finally got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning making it 8-1.

However, the Sultans answered with two more runs in the top of the fifth inning when Service drove in Aquiningoc-David and Mendez drove in Holmquist to push their lead to 10-1.

Santana rounded out their scoring in the top of the sixth as Downing walked which scored Barkhimer and Emma Leggett (RBI) grounded out to score Ashley Madrigal.

In the win, Mendez went 6 innings giving up 1 run which was earned on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7.
