CITY-EASTERN LEAGUE
CHRISTIAN 12, SERRA 7
It was all Patriots early on and they would hold on to defeat the Conquistadors in the opening of league play.
Christian opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Lauren Sherburne (4-5, 3R, SB) led off with a single, Silent Rain Espinoza (4-5, 3R, 2B) doubled, Ashley Carter (2-2, 2R, 3 RBI, 2B) would reach on an error, a couple batters later Alexa Henderson (1-1, 2 RBI) singled to score both Sherburne and Espinoza to make it 2-0, Devyn Krystek (1-2, R) would follow with a single. Scoring for the Patriots as well in the inning were Carter, Henderson and Krystek which put the Patriots up 5-0.
Trailing in the top of the second inning the Conquistadors cut into the Patriots lead on a two-run home run to cut the deficit 5-2.
The Patriots got those runs back in the bottom of the second inning as Carter roped a double that scored both Sherburne and Espinoza and Audrey Shebloski drove in Carter with a single to extend the lead to 8-2.
Christian would tack on another run in the bottom of the fourth when Shebloski singled, stole second and would later score on a wild pitch to make it 9-2. Serra scored a run in the top of the fifth inning which made it 9-3.
Still leading by a nice margin the Patriots were not content and in the bottom of the sixth inning pushed across three more runs. Starting things off was Elle Lindblad with a single, Sherburne and Espinoza followed with back-to-back singles, Carter singled to drive in a run. Both Sherburne and Espinoza would come into score pushing the lead to 12-3.
However, the Conquistadors wouldn’t go down quietly as they put together multiple hits to score four runs to pull within 12-7 before the Patriots ended things.
