Vaqueros, Matadors lead win parade

EL CAJON – A few local boys teams are quietly building winning resumes during the tournament season…

In particular, the El Capitan Vaqueros, who won 69-46 at home against Chula Vista. 

All of El Capitan’s players scoring for the second consecutive night. 

Senior center Randy Tucker led El Capitan with 15 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks.

Vaquero junior forward Jaqori Harris was active all night with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

El Cap senior guard Jake Pfitzner poured in three three-pointers and grabbed six rebounds, and freshman guard Nick Hadge scored 10 points after being called up from JV earlier in the week.

The Vaqueros opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run to blow the game open. 

El Capitan improved to 6-6 on the year.

VALHALLA 57, SAGE CREEK 45 – The Norsemen improved to 8-2 with the Grossmont Winter Tournament win over the Bobcats in a game played at Grossmont High on Saturday.

Valhalla forced 10 turnovers and limited the Bobcats to 1-of-14 shooting from three-point range.

MOUNT MIGUEL 48, SCRIPPS RANCH 45 – The Matadors edged the Falcons in a Grossmont Winter Tournament game played at Olympian High.

Mount Miguel improved to 8-3.

MIRA MESA 93, MONTE VISTA 57 – The Monarchs were routed by Noah Tumblin and the Marauders.

The Monarchs were only down 42-35 at the half.

Monte Vista got off to a good start, leading 17-10 early then were only down 20-17 end of one quarter.

But a series of turnovers in the fourth quarter changed the complexion of the game.

Senior forward DEMARCUS MCKAN scored 22 points for Monte Vista, including 10 in the third quarter.

Senior forward DERRICK WILEY added 15 points for the Monarchs, while senior teammate JAIDEN DAWN added 12 points.

Monte Vista fell to 6-6. The game was played at Grossmont High as part of the Grossmont Winter Tournament.

ARMY-NAVY 68, STEELE CANYON 59 – The Cougars were in this one for three quarters, but the Warriors outscored Steele Canyon, 19-3, in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars trailed 22-20 after one period and the game was tied at 38-all at halftime.

Steele Canyon then turned in a strong third quarter to build a seven-point lead after three.

The game was part of the Grossmont Winter Tournament at Grossmont High.

MADISON 66, GRANITE HILLS 58 – The Warhawks won over the Eagles in a Grossmont Winter Tournament game.

CHAPARRAL 63, EL CAJON VALLEY 51 – The Pumas won over the Braves.

UNIVERSITY CITY 64, SANTANA 46 – The Centurions defeated the Sultans.
