A myriad of tournaments started play on Wednesday and a handful of teams earned wins to start their respective events…
MOUNT MIGUEL 68, CLARK 34 – The fourth-ranked Matadors won over the visitors from Nevada in the WNBA Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
SYLENA PETERSON scored 23 points and LALLI GURROLA added 17 points and MICHELLE CORLEY contributed 12 points.
Peterson had a pair of three-pointers in the first half and had three triples in the contest. She had 18 points in the first half.
Gurrola had four three-pointers on the night, while Corley buried three treys in the game.
EL CAPITAN 41, TORREY PINES 39 – Sophomore MACKENZIE CURTIS scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the El Capitan Vaqueros over Torrey Pines in the NAIA Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
Sophomore EMMA DRISKILL scored a basket with 1:47 left in the game for the decisive bucket.
EL CAJON VALLEY 50, KEARNY 14 – The Braves held the Comets to four points in the first half to take the Gold Crown Holiday Tip-Off game
El Cajon Valley ran its record to an impressive 8-3.
HELIX 44, OCEAN VIEW 36 – The Highlanders won over Ocean View, of Huntington Beach, at the Gold Crown Holiday Tip-Off at Bonita Vista High.
Helix improved to 5-5 on the season.
GOLDEN VALLEY 53, SANTANA 36 – The Sultans lost to Golden Valley, of Santa Clarita in the Prep Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
UNIVERSITY CITY 44, WEST HILLS 27 – In the FIBA Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic, the Wolf Pack fell to the Centurions.
MORSE 50, GROSSMONT 35 – The 13th-ranked Foothillers were upset as the Tigers returned the favor for a defeat to Grossmont last week.
HILLTOP 58, FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 52 – The Lancers upset the Knights at the Gold Coast Classic game at Bonita Vista High, sending Foothills Christian to a 9-4 record.
GOLDEN VALLEY 57, GRANITE HILLS 15 – The Eagles lost to Golden Valley, of Merced, in the Prep Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
MARANATHA 66, VALHALLA 11 – At the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic, the Lady Norsemen fell to 4-9 after losing to Maranatha, of Pasadena.
GODINEZ 42, VALHALLA 16 – The Lady Norsemen played two games at the tournament.
