LA MESA – Grossmont High senior quarterback Jaime Odom threw five touchdown passes and the Foothillers racked up a San Diego CIF Section record 817 yards of total offense in a 59-26 win over visiting Mater Dei Catholic on Friday night.

Odom was 23-of-31 passing for 437 yards and 5 TDs as Grossmont amassed the previous school-record of 692 yards in a game against Hilltop in 2014.

Senior receiver Brody Schicker caught three of the scores and finished with eight catches for 136 yards.

The Foothillers’ 540 passing yards also broke a school record (509 vs. Valhalla in 2013).

In two wins this season, Odom has 724 passing yards and 9 TDs.

Grossmont’s Jahmal Nevels scored on a 16-yard touchdown with 8:52 remaining in the first quarter.

After the Crusaders tied it later in the first on a long touchdown run, just one minute later, Odom threw a pass to Devin Jackson, who turned a short gain into a 60-yard score down the left sideline.

Moments later, Odom connected with Schicker for a two-score lead after 12 minutes.

Credit Mater Dei. They had some answers, getting another score to make it 21-13 in the second quarter.

However, Odom had a touchdown hookup with Robert Tucker in the second quarter.

Tucker had 117 yards and a TD on six catches. He also had 186 yards of total offense.

Then Odom had his second touchdown pass to Schicker.

The Crusaders put together another mild comeback bid in the third quarter.

However, Odom-to-Schicker might be a thing at this point.

Grossmont added on to the tote when Nevels added a touchdown run from 24 yards out for a 52-26 lead after three. Nevels finished with 65 yards on the ground.

Grossmont junior Justin Brown came in and threw a 41-yard touchdown strike to junior Nathan Ng in the fourth quarter.

Axel Gonzalez kicked a 45-yard field goal late in the second quarter. He was also 8-for-8 on extra-point attempts.

Grossmont has a bye next week.
