2020-21 SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN HAWKS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
USD 98, SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN 56
ECS staff report
ALCALA PARK – Following a four-week hiatus due to coronavirus cancellations, San Diego Christian College expectedly lost to a Division I opponent Friday (Dec. 11), but the Hawks’ showing still pleased women’s basketball coach Shawn Chaffin in a 98-56 setback to host University of San Diego at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
“We saw a lot of positives this afternoon,” Chaffin noted. “Although it was our first loss of the seasons, we got a lot better – our future looks great.”
A trio of underclassmen led the way for SDCC (3-1 overall).
Freshman shooting guard Izzy Feller paced the Hawks with 18 points, while junior point guard Karen Hoque chipped in with 15 points, Meanwhile, Maddy Zugna, a frosh post player in her season debut, added 12 points and blocked four shots by the host Toreros (2-1).
USD grabbed a 28-10 first-quarter lead and never trailed from there, as six players scored in double figures.

HAWKS NOTES
San Diego Christian returns to action in January with a unique Golden State Athletic Conference opener… or shall we say “openers.”
Instead of traveling to Northern California to play William Jessup University over consecutive days, the schools will play a doubleheader on Sat., Jan. 9.
The first contest is slated for 11:30 a.m., then following a lunch break, a second game of the twin bill is set for 4:30 p.m.
