GIRLS: Monarchs’ win streak ends

Saturday, April 3

EASTLAKE 45, MONTE VISTA 32 – The Titans ended the Monarchs’ season-opening win streak at six games.

The Titans had three players score in double figures.

MORSE 49, GRANITE HILLS 44 – The Tigers downed the Eagles in overtime on Saturday.

Granite Hills trailed 32-28 entering the fourth quarter.

The game was tied at 38-all at the end of regulation.

Shaunessy Cardwell, a junior, led Morse with 18 points.

 

Friday, April 2

MONTE VISTA 48, CORONADO 46 – The Monarchs edged the Islanders at the Gold Crown Tournament.

Trailing 24-21 at halftime, Monte Vista used a 27-22 edge in the second half to determine this one.

“I have a lot of trust in my team,” Monte Vista’s Saniya Raley said. “I’m very happy that I’m able to set up my teammates to get steals from my pressure up top.

“I’m not worried about how many points I drop or how many steals I make as long as I’m contributing to my team with everything I’ve got.”

 

EL CAPITAN 50, HELIX 37 – The Vaqueros won the matchup between conference teams in La Mesa on Friday with thanks in part to great perimeter defense.

El Cap harrassed Helix into a 3-for-28 shooting effort from beyond the three-point line.

Reagan Hatvasingh, a freshman, scored 9 points for the Lady Highlanders. Senior Selena Soloman added 8 points and three steals for Helix.

Both Hatvasingh and Soloman had five rebounds to pace the Scotties.

 

WEST HILLS 43, LIBERTY 30 – The Wolf Pack outscored Liberty, 12-4, over the opening eight minutes and led by 10 at halftime against the Lions.

Freshman Gabby Pro led the Lions with 12 points, nine of them from three.

Junior Izzy Woodhams had 11 rebounds for Liberty Charter.

West Hills was pretty good from three-point range, which helped the cause.

West Hills led 30-23 entering the fourth period.

 

Thursday, April 1

MONTE VISTA 68, MONTGOMERY 16 – Sami Gonzalez scored 18 points to lead the Monarchs. She made three three-pointers.

Meadow Delino added 14 points, five assists and 11 steals for Monte Vista.

Veronica Barka had 10 points and five rebounds for MVHS, including a pair of three-pointers.

Junior Jaelynn Bocala had eight points and five rebounds for the Monarchs.

“The energy on and off the court is crucial for us,” Bocala said. “Our intensity was consistent despite all the rotations and players in positions we normally wouldn’t play since we were missing some key players.”

 

LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY 65, MOUNT MIGUEL 49 – The Matadors and Torreys met in a matchup of elite county teams with La Jolla Country Day, the nation’s No. 1-ranked team, coming out on top.

The Torreys used a 20-6 first-quarter advantage to really get ahead in this one.

Mount Miguel, however, was determined to come back and deadlocked the game at halftime, 28-all.

LJCD outscored the Matadors, 19-12, in the third quarter.

Sophomore Jennifer Moreno scored 21 points to lead Las Matadoras. Included were three three-pointers, three assists and three steals.

Junior Danay Williams-Pope added 11 points for Mount Miguel. She also pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Ixchel Roho finished with nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals for Mt. Miguel.
