SPRING VALLEY – The San Marcos Knights gave the Mount Miguel Matadors a game for one quarter on Wednesday night.
That’s when the Matadors decided to take the game over with their defense, holding the visitors to just one point in the second period on the way to a 66-29 victory as part of the Jay Rowlett Matador Classic.
Mount Miguel is off to a 4-0 start.
Mount Miguel led 17-13 after the first quarter but had a 12-point lead at halftime, 26-14.
Then, in the second half, the Matadors’ offense heated up.
Ixchel Rojo had a three-pointer in the third quarter to close out her 20-point scoring night for Las Matadoras. 15 of the points came in the first half. She added eight assists and six steals.
The Matadors’ Jennifer Moreno had a pair of threes in the fourth quarter to finish the evening with 17 points. She also had seven rebounds, five assists, and six steals.
Nataly Bravo had a three-pointer in the first quarter for the Matadors, while teammate Helen Rosales added a three in the third quarter.
Mount Miguel will host El Camino on Saturday as part of the Rowlett Matador event. Game time is 5 p.m.
GRANITE HILLS 56, LIBERTY CHARTER 39 – The Eagles led by eight after one quarter but the score was tied 25-all at halftime, as the winless Lions gave another heartened effort.
Senior Izzy Woodhams led the Lions with 12 points, while teammate Jordan Dillon, a freshman, added 10 points.
Granite Hills improved to 5-3, while the Lions fell to 0-7.
VISTA 59, SANTANA 38 – Santana couldn’t get on track against a good Vista club.
The Sultans fell to 3-3, while the Panthers improved to 6-3.
Vista led 28-16 at halftime in Santee.
