2022 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

Las Vegas (4-15-22) – Leading by six runs in the fourth inning the Valhalla Norsemen would hold off a late rally by the Southwest El Centro Eagles to claim a 9-7 victory on Friday.

The Eagles would manage to take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Norsemen would rally back to tie up the game in the bottom of the inning.

An RBI double by Bella Moscoso that brought home Maryn Jordan and later in the inning Moscoso successfully stealing home started the excitement for the Norsemen.

Valhalla would claim the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Moscoso drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Marissa Lupo and give them a 3-2 lead.

Leading by a run in the bottom of the third inning the Norsemen really broke the game open as Lupo with two outs cranked a three-run blast over the center-field fence to give them a 6-2 lead. Scoring on the home run was Avery Voth who doubled and Liliana Moscoso who came into run for McKayla Fish who led off the inning with a walk.

More damage by the Norsemen would occur in the bottom of the fourth inning as Fish would drive in Cadyn Ruffer who doubled with two outs and later Moscoso who again came into run for Fish would successfully steal home to extend the lead to 8-2.

However, the Eagles would make a mini-rally starting with a two-run home run by Jessenia Lopez and they would later in the inning take advantage of multiple Valhalla errors to pull within 8-7 before the Norsemen were finally able to stop the bleeding.

Valhalla however in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs would tack on an additional run thanks to a solo home run by Alaya Chapa over the left-field fence to make it 9-7.

Southwest El Centro again would threaten in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a one-out walk followed by a double but Valhalla again would get out of the inning unscathed.

Fish would pick up the victory on the day as she allowed six runs on eight hits over six innings while walking five and striking out seven.

 

CALEXICO 16, VALHALLA 1

NEVADA (4-15-22) – Twelve runs scored over the first couple of innings by Calexico resulted in a runaway 16-1 victory by the Bulldogs over the Valhalla Norsemen on Friday.

Valhalla’s offense really struggled on the day and was held in check to four hits on the day. They would score their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning courtesy of an RBI single by Avery Voth.

Tallying hits for the Norsemen were Marissa Lupo, Maryn Jordan, and Allie Piscopo.

Arbor View 16, Christian 1 (4 inn.)

NEVADA (4-15-22) – Despite taking an early lead it just wasn’t the day for the Christian Patriots as they dropped a 14-1 decision to the number one team in Division 5A according to the computer rankings in Nevada Arbor View Aggies on Friday.

The lone run of the day for the Patriots came when Kate Manes led off the game with an inside the park home run to make it 1-0.

The Aggies however would push across eight runs in the bottom of the first and six runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Christian would be limited to only three hits on the day with the other two hits courtesy of Lucy Sherburne and Tyler Krystek.
