San Diego (4-25-22) – Pitching for the Christian Patriots (15-8, 4-0 CL) was on fire as both Kate Manes and Payton Grosset would combine to keep the San Diego Cavers (2-13, 1-3 CL) without a hit in the eight inning 3-1 victory on Monday afternoon in City League action.

Christian would score the game’s first run in the top of the fourth inning when Lucy Sherburne (2-4, RBI) would knock in Allyson Moody (2-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B) to make it 1-0. However, the Cavers would answer with two outs in the bottom of the inning as Leah Hermosillo would come into score on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Neither team would put together anything as Christian would keep the Cavers without a hit and the Patriots couldn’t scratch anything together.

However, that would change in the extra frame in the top of the eighth inning as Tyler Krystek (2-4, R, 2 SB) would lead off with a bunt single, she would steal second base and come around to score when Moody doubled to left field.

Leading 2-1 the Patriots looked for more and got it as Madison Kleinsmith (1-1, RBI) who came into pinch hit for Ashley Wood would knock in Moody to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead.

Grosset who came into the game in relief of Manes would quickly dispatch the Cavers in order as she would get two ground ball outs and a flyout.

Manes would get the win as she allowed one run on zero hits while striking out four on the day over six innings. Grosset in her two innings of work would strike out two on the day.

Christian with the win has now won three games in a row and will now take on Coronado who is also undefeated in league in a battle for first place on Tuesday at 4 PM on the road.
